How to Deal with Teens that Don?t Listen

One of the first questions parents need to ask themselves, “Why doesn’t my child want to listen to me?”  We need to take a good look at our family dynamics when our children do not listen.  Some questions to ask each other:

  • Do we spend quality time together
  • Are we committed to one another; and proud to belong together; and show  appreciation for each other
  • Do we share responsibility by participating in decision-making
  • Do we communicate effectively by listening and encouraging each other to share in conversation
  • Do we plan for change by being flexible and adaptable
  • Do we balance home, work, and outside activities
  • Are we building connections with other people, especially grandparents and other  relatives who can offer support?
